Relaxation and healing for the body, mind and spirit

Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Although its origins are not well documented, there are reliefs on the walls of a Sixth Dynasty Egyptian tomb (c. 2450 B.C.) that depict two seated men receiving massage on their hands and feet.  Reflexology was introduced to the United States in 1913 by William H. Fitzgerald, M.D. (1872–1942), and later modified  in the 1930's and 1940's by Eunice D. Ingham (1889–1974), a nurse and physiotherapist.

The underlying theory behind reflexology is that there are acupressure points on the feet, hands, and ears that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body.  Applying pressure, and massage to these areas can promote health in the corresponding organs through energetic pathways.

What to expect of a Reflexology session:

The session will begin with a warm, relaxing aromatherapy foot soak.  Following the foot soak, the client will lay comfortably, and fully clothed, on a massage table.  Pressure will be applied to the feet without the use of lotion or oil to stimulate various points and identify areas of tenderness or tension.  Simulating these points can help to clear subtle energy blocks and restore free flowing energy to normalize and enhance the functioning of the body.  Benefits can include stress reduction, relaxation, pain management, improved body, function, overall well-being.
